Client : AREP (Paris)
Engineers : MaP3 (BET Structure) Surface :13 000 m2 Structure weight : 350 Tonnes Budget :14 Million Euros Project :Design proposal for the competition of Athens Central Station The roof structure proposal has been designed as a continuously deformed square grid of 17m. Our method is based on computation using a plane static model artificially loaded. The structure obtained, is the plane grid deformation in linear analysis (not P Delta). Although this method is a degeneration of the well known funicular shell design method first used by Gaudi on glued textile models and then by Frei Otto, the shape is quite efficient to resist to vertical loads, the structure being braced with diagonal elements. The weight of the structure for 17 x 17 m span is about 25 kg/sqm. |
